Magic city Main Title Sequence
Design
Design and storyboard for Starz’s Magic City main title sequence.
The sequence follows a woman swimming underwater over the vast cityscape of Miami and the glitzy Miramar Playa Hotel. Water caustics are used as textures and transitions to cut through historical imagery of the late 1950s after the Cuban Revolution: Fidel Castro, Kennedys, the mob, the CIA, and Muhammad Ali. The surreal daydream fades away as the camera pulls out from inside the protagonist’s eye to reveal him sitting at the Miramar bar.
